The official Sheriff contact page, Detention Center page, and important-numbers directory are the best starting points for Ashe-specific routing.
This is a private reference site, not a government office. It cannot confirm custody, release a person, post bond, or retrieve an official booking record. Contact the originating Ashe County office directly for current information.
Official Ashe County Contacts
Use the office that holds the record instead of sending a broad question to an unrelated agency. The Sheriff’s main office is at 140 Government Circle, Jefferson, NC 28640, 336-846-5633, with email info@asheso.com. The detention address is 140 Law Enforcement Dr., Jefferson, NC 28640, and the detention telephone is 336-846-5611. The county government directory also lists communications at 336-846-5600.
The home-page information gives weekday office hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Another official contact page uses 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., so confirm before visiting. Detention visitation is listed for Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.; the Detention Center also describes video visitation through Paytel. These are contact and visitation details, not an online roster.
Public Information Officer Tasha Francis can be reached at 336-846-5995 or tfrancis@asheso.com for release-routing questions. That does not guarantee that the PIO is the records custodian.
Where to Send Each Question
The following routes match the custody or record type described in the research.
- For a booking photo or booking record, start with the county booking guide, then ask the Sheriff to route a targeted Chapter 132 request.
- For current custody or a release question, call the Ashe County Detention Center at 336-846-5611. No live public roster was verified.
- For a wanted notice or warrant process question, use the Most Wanted and warrant guide, the Judicial Branch, or the Clerk at 336-219-1400.
- For court dates, dispositions, and expunction information, use the Ashe County Judicial Branch page.
- For a state-prison or state-supervision record, use NCDAC’s offender search and its public-records instructions.
- For federal custody, use the Bureau of Prisons locator. For immigration custody, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator.
- For an emergency use 911. For anonymous information, the Sheriff’s Crimestoppers line is 336-846-4188.
Requests for Existing Records
North Carolina’s public-records guide says a person does not need a special form or a stated purpose to request a public record. Ask for an existing record, identify the person and approximate date, and request the booking record and photo separately if both are needed. Ask for electronic delivery and an itemized estimate before any actual-cost or special-service charge. Ashe has no verified local photo fee schedule or fixed response promise.
If the request concerns a Jefferson or West Jefferson arrest, identify the municipal agency when known. A city police report and a county detention photo may be held by different custodians. For Lansing, no separate municipal booking source was verified, so the Sheriff’s routing path remains the supported starting point.
